Biography

Dr. Zyra O’Connor is a board-certified pediatrician, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Capital District Pediatric Society member. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing and Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. O’Connor completed her internship and residency training at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She began her studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, earning her Bachelor of Science in biology. Dr. O’Connor speaks Tagalog conversationally and is interested in newborn care, early childhood, and development.

Dr. O’Connor chose to specialize in pediatrics because she liked the continuity of care and seeing patients through their many stages of growth and development. She cares for her patients as she would her friends and family. Dr. O’Connor values working collaboratively with families and providing education and guidance to parents/caregivers so they can be empowered to care for their children confidently. After training and working in the Washington, D.C. metro area for many years, she learned to be culturally sensitive and understand that everyone’s unique background shapes and impacts their view of health and well-being. Dr. O’Connor incorporates this view when working with her patients to achieve their health goals together.

Dr. O’Connor is originally from Guam but moved to the area to be closer to family. Outside of medicine, she enjoys reading, learning to play the ukulele, discovering restaurants in the area, and creating memories with her husband and two daughters.
